Popular Science has announced its 2022 "Best of What's New" Award winners featuring the most innovative products and technology of the year. The awards span 10 categories, including personal care.
TikTok makeup filters by Grace Choi took top honors in the personal care category. This digital brow stencil and contouring filter maps the slopes and dips of each user’s unique features and guides their makeup placement.
Other winners in personal care are:
• YSL Beauté Rouge Sur Mesure by L’Oreal, a personalized lipstick, made on-demand.
• Gro Ageless by Vegamour, a hair care system that includes oral supplements and a topical serum.
• Smoke Alarm Drops by Pour Moi, a skin serum that reportedly shields skin from wildfire smoke.
• Dr. Harris Anti-Wrinkle Sleep Mask by CurrentBody, an eye mask lined with slightly raised silicone dots that press touch receptors in the skin, leading to better sleep and a reduction in the appearance of wrinkles between the eyebrows for up to five hours.
• Colour Alchemy by The Unseen and Schwarzkopf Professional, a holographic hair dye.
• Maybelline's Super Stay Vinyl Ink Longwear Liquid Lipcolor, which promises 16 hours of wear via a dual-phase formula that combines a long-wear pigment with an emollient silicone resin for moisture and shine.
• Venom Go by Hyperice, a recovery tool for sore muscles.
• TheraFace Pro by Therabody, which offers massage and a suite of magnetic attachments that can provide hot and cold compresses, microcurrent treatments, deep facial cleaning, and multi-hued LED light therapy.
Also on the list, the Loop Cocoon, a coffin made of dried mycelium that breaks down once exposed to moist soil. In less than two months, it degrades entirely and seeds the burial site with mushrooms. The fungi then helps the corpse biodegrade more quickly, breaking down heavy metals and pollutants in its tissues so it can nourish surrounding plants instead of poisoning them.
