As our hair heads into winter, we need to be prepared to combat the coldest time of the year. Everything from how to properly shampoo and condition during the winter season to keeping moisture in our hair and scalps with the latest ingredient technology to knowing the latest hair trends as well. One of the major winter issues we will deal with is the moisture level of winter air. It actually decreases and the air around us becomes much drier. A little known fact, but one that is easily controlled by the right treatment products, is that our hair adjusts to the humidity present in its environment. In the summer, the air is more humid and our hair takes on that moisture and in turn becomes frizzy and limp. In winter months, the humidity drops making the air much drier. This dry air actually pulls the moisture out of our hair and the scalp causing a variety of seasonal problems such as static, seasonal dandruff and much more.
Another contributing factor to dry hair and scalp is that when the temperatures drop outside, we turn up the temperature on our heaters inside. This creates even dryer air surrounding our hair and scalps. This dry heat pulls moisture out of our hair and scalp causing our hair to be dull, dry and lifeless. Plus, the lack of moisture in the air also causes scalps to become dry and often itchy and flaky bringing on seasonal dandruff. These issues can be remedied with the right moisturizing deep conditioning program. But most of the client feedback we receive is that they don’t have time to deep condition. So we offer our clientele a more modern, yet extremely effective take on the traditional hydrating hair mask. Most definitely effective, yet these treatments also can be applied and penetrate into the hair fiber in a flash!
We offer a wide variety of what we call Tela Beauty Organics by Philip Pelusi Flash Treatments. These deep penetrating treatments tackle a wide variety of hair and scalp problems from lack of moisture and strength, frizz, lack of body, color preservation an interestingly, texture problems. But all done in a flash! Meaning the application process and penetration are quick. How are they able to penetrate so quickly? Our 100% USDA Certified Organic ingredients in our products are not only obtained from the best organic sources in the world but also they have been incorporated into a microemulsion delivery system. This cutting edge technology gives us the ability to control the micron size of the conditioning emulsion to create the best environment possible, making each molecule penetrate faster and deeper for the longest lasting conditioning of the hair fiber.
Then, the process takes advantage of gentle heat sources during the process to accelerate molecular penetration. So creating the smallest ingredient droplets and applying the principle
One of the other benefits the client is experiencing simultaneously thru our Tela Flash Treatments is texture management. So we are not only attacking winter hair problems from loss of moisture and strength with organic herbal actives and plant derived proteins and humectants, protecting hair color with organic antioxidants and super fruits with specialized texturizing ingredients incorporated into our proprietary microemulsions to help texture behave in the way the client desires. What makes these approach even more unique is that we are able to effect texture from inside the hair fiber instead from the outside; meaning zero exterior coatings that can weigh hair down.
Our Tela Beauty Organics Super Charged Smoothing Flash Treatment technique transforms unruly, coarse hair texture into silky, smoother strands with Tela’s proprietary Phyto-Keratin microemulsion when used with the Tela Phyto-Keratin Smoothing Treatment in-salon treatment product. We can also help remedy frizz and curl separation with the Tela Beauty Organics Super Charged Curl and Anti-Frizz Flash Treatment featuring the Tela Beauty Organics treatment product Girls Who Love Curls Anti-Frizz Curl Enhancing Smoother. Its’ exclusive vegetable Keratin-Quinoa blend helps to add spring and definition to natural and artificial curls and waves while strengthening and adding shine.
And last, tackle color loss prevention with our Tela Beauty Organics Super Charged Color Lock Treatment featuring the Tela Color Lock Anti Color Fade Serum. It features our exclusive proprietary Coconut Protein Micro-emulsion, two Patented Broad Spectrum UVA/UVB Absorbers, and a Certified Organic Proprietary Enhancing Antioxidant Blend of Chinese Foxglove, Ku Shen, Milk Thistle, Reishi Mushroom and Wolfberry and our Patent Pending, Hydro-Charged Pelusi Ceramide Complex help provide amazing color locking results help prevent color fadage up to an amazing 80% in between touch ups and keeps color vibrant and shining for up to 20+ shampoos while used both in the actual color formula and as an after-care product thru this treatment and at home.
Of course we also offer our more traditional winter hair mask with our P2 Spa Hair Therapy Exfoliating Deep Recover Treatment. It features our P2 by Philip Pelusi Exfoliating Scalp and Hair Treatment Shampoo which contains the skin care exfoliator Salicylic Acid to treat seasonal dry scalp and dandruff plus our Hyaluronic Acid filled P2 Hydrating Deep Hair and Scalp Treatment to deeply bind long lasting moisture deep into the hair fiber and sooth scalp surface warding off dry itching winter scalp issues. Even though this is more traditional winter hair masque treatment it still only tacks-on a mere 15 minutes to any in salon appointment for a quick and easy turn around for our guest.
Another winter hair care topic we educate our guests on is shampoo and conditioning tips to keep your hair and scalp properly hydrated during these drier winter months. Switching to or alternating with a slightly more hydrating shampoo will help lock moisture in at the beginning of your day. We recommend using Tela Beauty Organics by Philip Pelusi Curly Shampoo which contains the weightless moisturizers Organic Marshmallow Root, Plantain, Mountain Ladybell, and Solomon’s seal. If your hair a fairly thick and a little more on the coarse side, you can switch to this shampoo for the winter while greatly improving your texture and style. However if your hair tends to be somewhat fine or medium density, try alternating with this type of shampoo a few times a week for a boost of hydration here and there. Also the ingredient Cassia Angustifolia Seed Extract is powerful but completely weightless humectant. So it is great for binding moisture on any texture or density of hair without weighing it down. This way you won’t greatly affect your level of volume.
We also recommend a few good shampoo basics. We take a skin care cleansing approach to hair care cleansing and therefore recommend tweaking the client’s normal shampoo technique to get the maximum benefit of the product. Start with soaking wet hair. Partially wet hair does not allow for good product distribution even when you are working with a gentle but highly concentrated sulfate free shampoo such as the shampoos in our Tela and P2 product lines. Next, we recommend an easy 2-step shampoo process. First, a quick pre-shampoo where you apply a dime size amount of shampoo and lightly massage for just a few seconds to remove some surface debris followed by a light rinse, not being concerned with rinsing everything clean. Next, apply another dime to nickel size amount of shampoo, distribute throughout the scalp area and then work into what will be a low but thorough lather. This effects of this lower lather have proven to be extremely beneficial helping hair retain color, moisture and help with texture control as well. Rinse thoroughly and condition. We recommend shampooing starting at the scalp where there is usually more oil and debris then working towards the ends of the hair and then conditioning the hair in the reverse, conditioning the ends first where the hair tends to be more tangled and dry then working up towards the scalp where the hair tends to be healthier due to its newer growth.
Another tip we offer our guests is something that can help when there is no time to shampoo and simultaneously helps attack another big winter problem, static. We recommend having on hand a combination hair refresher, anti-static, anti-frizz dry shampoo. We recommend our ozone-friendly, PVP-free, powder-free spray Tela Beauty Organics by Philip Pelusi Dri Shampoo with its Sunflower and Organic Lavender that add weightless hydration to help eliminate static, add shine and protect from thermal styling tools. Simply mist into hair, brush thru and touch up style with blow-dryer or flatiron. Another fast style tip is to mist on this dry shampoo once you remove your winter hair to calm static or frizzies.
And for this winter’s holiday events, be up to date with the latest runway trend in hair. Opposites attract in the ultra-modern design created by the Philip Pelusi International Design Team for the Venexiana Mercedes Benz Runway Show. This show stopper hairstyle, actually termed Opposite Attraction, is where crimped texture collides with smooth sophistication; crimped in the front and smoothed into an elegant chignon twist at the nape evoking the refined feeling of 19th century Venice but with a modern twist. Creating this complex look during the frenzy of fashion week would have been no easy task except by having the right products and talented stylists on hand create these virtual hair sculptures. With models running from show to show, their hair needed a quick revival before our styling team could even start working with their hair. We started with our USDA Certified Organic Tela Beauty Organics Dri Shampoo to prepare the hair. It’s Organic Wolfberry and Chinese Foxglove help protect hair color while Sunflower and Organic Lavender enhance shine and help eliminate product build-up and odors from the hair. This product not only works well on runway models but also for every clients who need a quick fix during their hectic busy lives.
Hair is then given a low side part. The larger parted side is then given a crimped texture with a heated crimping iron. But first our Tela Beauty Organics Healer was applied to protect the hair from the crimping iron while simultaneously helping to mend split ends and create maximum shine. This multi-task wet or dry styling serums’ water-soluble Organic Rice Bran, Shea Butter and Sweet Almond Oil help protect hair from heat styling, eliminates frizz and hydrates hair and scalp. Fingertip amounts are all that is needed from this super concentrated beauty balm for hair. Also an excellent product to spot relieve dry scalp during the cold winter months.
Next, the rest of the hair is brushed and lightly teased with a gentle, natural bore bristle brush. We used our custom designed Tela Beauty Organics Natural Bore Bristle Brush to not only gently back-brush the hair for volume but also to smooth it into a modern chignon twist. All along working with our amazing P2 by Philip Pelusi Fluid. This water-soluble, slow-drying weightless mist makes an excellent working spray allowing the stylist to work with the hair without it getting to firm to fast. In fact, its natural Silk Protein and Sodium PCA allow this spray to stay flexible the entire time. It has good style memory and a light hold but can be brushed thru for any adjustments that need to be make during styling. It’s virtually mistake proof. This is why P2 Fluid is the perfect at-home product for every salon client to have in their home hair wardrobe.
To finish the style, the front crimped section is swept back and incorporated with the smooth chignon twist, being careful to preserve the crisp crimped texture in juxtaposition to the ultra-smooth chignon. Hair is twisted and pinned into place. A mist of our firmer holding P2 by Philip Pelusi Rivet provides a water-soluble but long lasting hold with tons of shine. And a final mist of our P2 by Philip Pelusi BrilliantHair with natural Beta-Carotene, Selenium and Magnesium provide deep lustrous shine while serving as ultra-light filters to protect hair color.
