Want to know what the hottest brow trends will be, based on what was seen from the NY Fashion Week Shows for S|S 2016? The biggest change we're seeing is the trend towards not just a thicker, fuller brow, but a more unmade up one. Brow makeup was either not used at all, or very minimally to keep brows looking natural and unstructured. The brows were completely unshaped and untrimmed, making eyebrows look fuller, longer and unkept.
A new brow is being seen with an emphasis going away from an arched or round eyebrow towards a straighter, more rectangular brow shape. When brows are grown in at the arches, the brow appears flatter and creates a more severe and bold feature on the face. Strong bone structures with prominent foreheads, cheekbones and jawbones and make this look work, while a softer, more feminine face shape can carry off this trend with a softer arch shaped in for a lighter look.
Another trend was the softly elegant brow, with a focus on a soft makeup application to make thick brows appear more groomed, yet not overly made up or darker. A soft brow shadow in a lighter shade, rather than matching the brow hair color, with very little pencil used.
Brows were decorated with either dark squares drawn over the brows for a square effect or softly colored in in shades of pinks and blues. Razored cuts were seen in eyebrows on the men with slight cuts put into the brows from the arch towards the ends. And still, a few runways showed a bleached brow for a dramatic effect.
TRENDS:
• Brows are still very full and thick.
• Brow shape is more rectangular and flat, rather than arched.
• Brows are filled in very little with makeup with a more natural look.
• Brow shadows were used more than a brow pencil.
• Brows are grown in completely, for a thicker, fuller, more textured and messy look.
• Brows are uncut, or trimmed for longer hairs from the front towards the ends.
• Brows are grown in thicker from the arch to the ends for a thicker overall appearance.
• Brows are brushed up and set with clear brow wax or gel.
• Brows become a statement feature, with a fuller brow paired only with a dramatic or classic red lip.
WHAT'S OUT:
• High, severely drawn arches.
• A stenciled on brow.
• A overly dark or made up brow.
• A rounded brow or arch.
• Overly tweezed or waxed brows.
• Brows cut down to the shape of the brow.
TO DO:
• Let brows grow in as much as possible to create a thicker, fuller brow. Have a professional clean up excess stray hairs, yet keep the overall effect full.
• Use a lighter version of your brow powder to even out color, but not make darker.
• Keep brow powder dry when applying, with a lighter shade 1/2 shades than the natural brow color.
• Focus on brow gels and brow waxes to keep brushed up brows in place.
• Line in brows with a pencil to create hair like strokes in sparse areas only.
• Avoid trimming the brows to create a longer hair like texture to the brows.
Recommended Products:
• Colored Brow Mascara to create a natural, fuller brow.
• Clear Brow Wax to hold brows in place when brushed up.
• Brow Shadow to fill in sparse areas only for a more even brow.
• Spoolie Brush to brush hairs up.
