Did summer styling and coloring do a number on your tresses? Have no fear because Shiva Tavakoli, founder of JOON Haircare, is here to share her top tips (and a few Persian beauty secrets) for restoring and rejuvenating hair for the Fall and Winter seasons.
See below for Shiva's tips and tricks in addition to how she uses Joon to maintain healthy hair.Give your hair mask a boost:
"If you're into hair masks, I recommend adding a few drops of the Saffron Hair Elixir ($28), mixing it together in your hands, and applying it to your hair. You can either leave it in for 15-20 minutes or keep it on as a overnight treatment. If you also use a shower cap, like our JOON Shower Cap ($14) in this process, it will help hold in heat which opens the hair cuticle, allowing the mask to fully penetrate. The combination of the Saffron Hair Elixir and the mask will leave your hair extremely nourished and hydrated!"
Save your rice water:
"My grandmother used to use the leftover water from her boiled rice and apply it to both her skin and hair. Rice water has antioxidants, minerals, amino acids as well as vitamins A and C which leaves the hair shiny, smooth and with more elasticity. I like to put the rice water in an infinity spray bottle so I can easily mist it all over my skin and hair."
Start scalp training:
"I recommend washing hair at least every other day and with time, you can even begin training hair to be washed every 3 or 4 days. Use a gently nourishing shampoo such as the JOON Saffron Rose Shampoo ($28), which helps to not strip out natural oils from the hair."
Change your diet:
"The key to great hair is to eat nutrient-rich food that encourage hair growth and longevity. Omega-3s (found in Salmon and Avocado) help hair grow shiny and soft. Pomegranates and berries contain vitamin C, which produce collagen which greatly strengthens hair. Cantaloupes, sweet potatoes, carrots and dark leafy vegetables are a great source of beta-carotene. The body converts this compound into vitamin A, which is linked to good hair health. Two minerals zinc and selenium are found in oysters, beef, and tofu, which help grow stronger hair."
