The 38th annual NYSCC Suppliers’ Day will be brimming with new content, show features and awards all from its exciting new venue in New York City, the epicenter of beauty and fashion. Taking place May 2-3, under one roof, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, Suppliers’ Day will provide the thousands of cosmetic and personal care manufacturers based in the tri-state area, and growing national and international contingencies, an accessible, convenient and enhanced trade show and conference experience.

Last year, nearly 8,000 attendees from more than 30 countries attended Suppliers’ Day. With more than 450 exhibitors and nearly 80,000 square feet already committed to the 2017 event, organizers expect the show to be bigger and better than ever.

“NYSCC Suppliers’ Day has gathered the best minds, products and resources in cosmetic science and product development to offer attendees a vibrant and rich learning, sourcing and networking experience,” said Marie Thadal, chair/president, NYSCC executive board. “There is no better place to be than at the Javits Center in New York City to amplify our members’ initiatives as well as advance best practices in consumer education, sourcing, sustainability and more.  We are excited to welcome everyone in May to this year’s event.  There are special attractions scheduled for each day.”

Those special attractions will include pre-show workshops on Monday, May 1. The Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC) will offer two all-day workshops that will provide in-depth information for beginning cosmetic chemists, QA chemists, scientists, marketing, sales and product development teams, as well as college chemistry students. These courses are:

    • Beginning Cosmetic Chemistry, led by instructor Perry Romanowski, vice president of Brains Publishing, who specializes in the creation of websites, traditional books, eBooks, audio and video focusing on science and its application to the real world. The course will provide an overview of the cosmetic industry and primer on industry jargon and tools of the trade as well as dives into key raw materials and vehicles, product development and product testing.

    • Cosmetic Formulations, instructed by Mark Chandler, president, ACT Solutions Corp (Adaptive Cosmetic Technology Solutions), a formulation design consultancy.  The all-day workshop will cover the mechanics of designing a cosmetic formulation and is beneficial to beginning and seasoned scientists, whether in formulation, quality control or claims testing. The course will provide a cosmetic raw materials overview and includes topics on emulsion formulation strategies; sunscreen, makeup and toiletry basics; cleanser formulation; hair care formulation basics; preservation basics; and enhancing efficacy among others.
Here’s a look at the rest of the schedule:

    Tuesday, May 2, 2017
        • Future Chemists Workshop—designed for student innovators and leaders of tomorrow, this results-oriented challenge, instituted by NYSCC, will give invited university students insight on how to be a cosmetic chemist through a tutorial and practical workshop which is then turned into a mini-challenge. This workshop, led by team captain Ewelina Pitusiak, director of R&D at Kolmar Laboratories, will run in two sessions. Winners will be announced that day and write-ups on the formulations will be crafted and pushed out to the industry—with special emphasis on formulations that resonate sustainability. Selected students from Rutgers University, Fashion Institute of Technology, Seton Hall University, Montclair State University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Kean University and Long Island University are already scheduled to participate.
        • The Digital Age of Beauty—on May 2 & 3 learn of the new technologies driving product development and assisting manufacturers who are feeling the pressure to introduce new products and reduce time-to-market.
        • Complimentary classes taking place on the show floor include: Speed up Development with Computer Aided Design, Joy Wolfe, mentor finance and marketing teams, Nemesis, FIRST Robotics Team 2590;  “Formulating for Efficacy;” Mark Chandler, president, ACT Solutions Corp.;  “An Efficient Way to Generate a Cosmetic Product Dossier & Product Information File (PIF);” Melanie Cummings, regulatory specialist, Repertoire Consulting LLC; “How Raw Material Compliance Library Can Streamline Your New Product Introduction Process for Faster Market Entry;” Ken Bubeck, founder, Ithos Global; “Givaudan Active Beauty invites you to an Immersive Beauty Experience;” Mathias Fleury, global marketing support manager, Givaudan Active Beauty; “Using Virtual Reality to Open Up Infinite Possibilities;” Timothy J. Roach, global strategic marketing director, bath and shower  applications, Lubrizol Corporation; “A View on Customized Cosmetics from the Non-Production Side. Chances, Possibilities and Limitations,” Georg Khazaka, general manager, Dipl. Oek.

    Tuesday & Wednesday, May 2 & 3
        • Innovations Alley—New to the exhibit floor, Innovations Alley will showcase the latest ingredients, solutions and technology that are, in many cases, debuting in the US or have not been seen at an event prior to NYSCC Suppliers’ Day 2017. Companies scheduled to participate include: ACE Glass Inc., Advonex International Corp., Expanscience, Inovapotek, Pharmaceutical Research & Development, Mintel and Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group.

    Wednesday, May 3
        • Discover Sustainability —will be presented in the Presentation Theater, and further underscores this year’s sustainability focus. With “natural,” “sustainable,” and “green” cosmetics much more than a trend for the cosmetics industry, as consumers are increasingly consuming and purchasing these types of products, Suppliers’ Day will feature short, educational sessions highlighting sustainability on a global scale. Sustainability experts including Jadir Nunes, consultant, Scientific Learning & Innovation Consulting (Brazil) will be joined by award-winning exhibitors who are breaking ground in sustainability initiatives including Alban Muller, Croda/Sederma, and Seppic, in this important forum.
