Winter's Biggest Hair Color Trends

Winter's Biggest Hair Color Trends

As predicted by Madison Reed Master Colorist Shvonne Perkins.

11.21.22
Madison Reed’s Master Colorist Shvonne Perkins has outlined four big trends for winter hair color. Here are Perkins’ picks:

Violet-Inspired Brunettes

When it comes to brunettes, darker, cooler tones with brown hues and hints of eggplant and cherry are trending. Violet and red tones found in Madison Reed Palermo Black, Volterra Amethyst and Trieste Red shades will take the stage this winter and are perfect for brunettes who want to try the violet trend, without having to lighten, said Perkins.

Copper Shades Won’t Fade

Copper is queen for the foreseeable future. It’s an easy trend to try because it can be a gorgeous overlay for blondes who want to go strawberry blonde or for brunettes looking for an extra pop. We’ll continue to see brunettes and blondes add warmth to their locks by adding subtle copper highlights to create a softer look, noted Perkins.

Perkins suggests Madison Reed’s Color Reviving Gloss in Cannella to add copper tones to red or brunette hair, or add copper golden tones using the Color Therapy Mask in Zucca. Glosses and color depositing masks are great for trying on a new trend, because they’re low-commitment, easy to play with, won’t over-deposit or over-darken hair, and help hydrate winter locks!

Champagne Beige is the new Champagne Blonde

According to Perkins. this season, we’re seeing blondes move toward champagne beige, a perfect balance of the coziest cashmere and the softest silk. It combines both gold and violet tones to create a gorgeous warm, blonde color with a soft hue of beige for the winter season. She suggests keeping the champagne tone is Color Reviving Gloss in Prosecco, which adds tons of shine and multiple light golden tones with violet for depth and dimension.

Depth with Dimensional Color

Dimensional color is replacing high contrast highlights this season, according to Perkins. The highlighting placement is less about all over blonding and more about strategically-placed pops. Perskins notes that the category will see hand-painted highlights that enhance the cheekbones and jawline for extra contrast. Dimensional color comes via Color Reviving Gloss, which adds tons of shine, corrects unwanted tones and enhances color, she said.
