Perseveration is an essential step in the formulation process, and the Troy Care PE, a series of broad-spectrum preservatives blends containing ethylhexylglycerin (EHG) in phenoxyethanol (POE), is globally approved and widely accepted for all rinse-off and leave-on applications. Two different blend ratios are offered by Troy that provide formulators a custom preservative solution that is optimized for different application types.
TroyCare PE91 (90% POE, 10% EHG) is specifically optimized for formulations that are more prone to bacterial contamination; shampoo, hand soap, and body wash are just some of these products.
TroyCare PE73 (70% POE, 30% EHG) is optimized for formulations that are more prone to fungal contamination, such as creams hair gels, lotions and wet wipes. Formulators of these kinds of products often find that they can protect their formulations with lower levels of TroyCare PE73 versus TroyCare PE91, which reduces cost-in-use as well as avoids the formulating issues that can arise when using higher levels of phenoxyethanol, according to the company.
Both are effective over a wide pH range (3-10) and are temperature stable up to 85°C.
