Silab calls Recoverine, a natural active ingredient capable of stimulating epidermal homeostasis in order to ensure a functional barrier and maximize its repair potential. Recoverine is derived from chestnuts, coming from a local, traceable and secure supply chain. The creation of strict specifications with local producers, located less than 30 km from Silab’s site, has led to standardizing the conditions of culture, harvest and transformation, thus ensuring a homogeneous quality of the raw material, according to the company.
A patented active ingredient (INCI name: Water & Castanea sativa (Chestnut) Seed Extract), Recoverine is available in aqueous solution (recommended amount: 2 to 4%) and in preservative-free powder and is compliant with international cosmetic regulations (Europe, US, Japan and China).
According to Silab, new in vivo tests also highlighted that, after 14 days of twice daily treatment, Recoverine tested at 2.5% has a significant effect on the barrier function by reducing the transepidermal water loss in Asian skin without aggression (-11.4%, P <0.001) and in Caucasian skin with aggression (-17%, P = 0.0045). A subjective evaluation confirms these results. Indeed, the majority of Asian volunteers consider their skin smoother and softer (90%), moisturized (73%) but also nourished, more supple and luminous (80%).
