BASF in North America launched Plurafac LF RA-P, a rinse aid additive developed for plastic surfaces and plastic dishware. Dishwashers use hot temperatures to support cleaning and sanitizing of dishes. Plastic dishes absorb less heat than other materials, which in turn leads to less water evaporation on the surface. This causes increased spotting and filming on plastic dishes.
Plurafac LF RA-P minimizes the effects of spotting and filming on plastics in industrial and institutional wash applications. BASF tests on plastic plates, tumblers, trays as well as on glasses showed lower spotting and filming compared to washing and rinsing with conventional surfactants. Additionally, these tests showed lower self-foaming – a desirable trait for washing action in dishwashers.
“Cafeterias, restaurants and other eating venues utilizing plastic dishes can spend less time manually and mechanically drying plastics, saving costs for both labor and energy,” said Seth Erdner, business director, BASF Home Care and I&I, North America. “This new innovation underlines our commitment to providing sustainable solutions for our customers.”
