Amphoteric (ampholytic) surfactant

11.16.21

A surfactant that, in water solution, may be either anionic or cationic, depending on the pH.

The applications of amphoteric surfactants include shampoos and personal care products, where mildness is important; industrial cleaners, because of their wide compatibility with builders, acids, and alkalis; and to some extent, household detergents.
