Croda Inc has received certification from the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), a multi-stakeholder initiative dedicated to promoting sustainable production of palm oil worldwide, for Mass Balance production at both of its manufacturing sites in the US.
Following the November 2012 certification of Croda’s Singapore manufacturing facility and the August 2013 certification of Croda’s major UK manufacturing facility at Rawcliffe Bridge to handle Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO) materials via Mass Balance, Croda has now attained the same status for its Mill Hall, PA and Atlas Point, DE plants.
RSPO certification of sustainable palm via Mass Balance is a significant step change for the personal care industry and a major step beyond book and claim, which is an administrative process allowing CSPO millers and their supply base to issue certificates for their oil that can then be purchased by the end user to offset palm oil used. Most importantly, Mass Balance monitors the amount of sustainable palm across the supply chain, which encourages support for growers to produce CSPO and move towards a segregated supply chain system.
Among the rapidly growing portfolio of certified sustainable palm oil derivative products that Croda offers are many of the core ingredients frequently used by personal care manufacturers, including products from the heritage Span and Tween ranges.
Croda has a schedule in place for additional RSPO audits in 2014 and anticipates it will be able to offer certified sustainable palm oil derivative products manufactured from its other manufacturing sites around the world by year’s end.
