At the World Congress of Dermatology in Vancouver, Galderma and the International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS) announced four winning projects as part of the Skin Pact program, a new initiative designed to advance community dermatology around the globe. Winners were selected from more than 100 applications across 26 countries in two categories “Community Leadership” and “Excellence in Education.” The aim is to improve dermatology communities and patient quality of life, according to Galderma.
Winners in the Community Leadership Award category included a project in Germany under the auspices of the European Society of Cutaneous Lupus Erythematosus that will investigate the role of sunscreens in the prevention of lupus erythematosus flares and disease activity. An Excellence in Education Award was presented to a project designed to encourage healthy sun protection behaviors in Latin children and guard against developing skin cancer. The Aurora Skin Cancer Centre in Colombia proposed a study to evaluate the impact of a new children’s book, “A Sun Protection Tale” in its effectiveness in improving sun-protection behaviors in school children who had read the book. Another winning project in Italy looks to establish a pilot “Bed-to-Bench and Back” research training program for dermatology residents.
Each winning initiative will be awarded $15,000.
