Avon’s gone…to the UK, that is. The direct sales leader is eliminating thousands of jobs, shutting down its New York City headquarters and taking off for the United Kingdom—while maintaining its current R&D facilities in Suffern and Rye, NY. The hope here is that Avon can survive and thrive with its new business model, but regardless, the move underscores the growing number of companies that are conducting business from anywhere and everywhere, often without costly hard assets that could weigh down their business decisions.
Outsourcing is the future of manufacturing, insist executives at the Foundation for Strategic Sourcing, an industry trade group that, not so coincidently, represents a range of contract manufacturing companies and the multinationals that have come to rely on them.
Demand for outsourcing services is growing at a double-digit rate and companies of all shapes and sizes are realizing the benefits of finding an innovative and reliable manufacturing partner. This month’s issue of Happi looks at some of those contract-manufacturing benefits and we spoke to several of the leading CMs in the personal care space.
Also this month, we report on the latest innovations coming from the ethnic skin and hair care categories, and if it is Spring, you know that perfumers are set to roll out an array of new scents just in time for Mother’s Day.
Unfortunately, Spring is also the start of the mosquito season in the Northern Hemisphere and fears of Zika have consumers scrambling for repellents. This issue of Happi\ reports on how industry is meeting the challenges posed by this health crisis that has gripped Brazil while the world watches and worries.
Spring also brings another round of conferences and tradeshows and the Happi staff will be attending In-Cosmetics in Paris, the joint session of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists and the American Oil Chemists Society, the New York Chapter of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists’ Suppliers Day and the mid-year meeting of the Consumer Specialty Products Association. See you on the road!
