FRANCE & BRAZIL: Clariant has formed a new Active Ingredients Unit to provide dedicated, expert support for the highly-specialized needs of the personal care industry. Clariant Active Ingredients opened its new facilities on the Sanofi BioParc in Toulouse, France on Jan. 1, 2017. The location is home to a dedicated team with vast experience in the field of active ingredients, with further global expansion planned for 2017.
The team’s priorities will be to extend Clariant’s existing portfolio of naturally-sourced products from BioSpectrum and Beraca with the future development of novel, nature-inspired active ingredients. It has at its disposal pharmaceutical industry-standard laboratories for skin biology studies and testing, and biochemical laboratories where the focus will be on synthesizing unique outperforming molecules for unmet consumers’ needs.
“We are committed to making our company a top player in the field of active ingredients,” said Ernesto Horikoshi, global head of active ingredients. “Clariant already possesses key elements vital to supporting this market, such as trusted partnerships with key players in this industry, unique access to natural cosmetic ingredients and strong experience in formulating products for personal care. The newly established expert team and state-of-the-art facilities add the vital missing ingredients to steer this business successfully.”
“With the active ingredients unit, Clariant now has a flexible start-up capable of rapidly launching active ingredient innovations to meet the highly-specialized product development needs of personal care brands, formulators and end consumers,” said Christian Vang, global head of business unit industrial and consumer specialties (BU ICS) at Clariant. “It represents a further proactive step in our on-going commitment to the advancement of this industry and to connecting our global footprint to local needs.”
In addition to the expansion activities in France, Clariant has opened its first global R&D center for hair care ingredients. Located in São Paulo, Brazil, the new global Competence Center Haircare (gCCH) puts Clariant’s experts at the heart of the leading hair care market, from where they will develop innovative solutions for customers around the world. The center will work in close partnership with the company’s global innovation network, especially the Clariant Innovation Center (CIC) based in Frankfurt.
In recent years Clariant has expanded its footprint in the emerging Latin American market and the opening of the Global Competence Center Haircare is another step in this process. Furthermore, it allows the company to continue implementing its strategy of focusing on innovation through R&D by expanding its global network of research centers.
The Global Competence Center Haircare houses a team of Clariant hair care professionals, application and formulation labs, and meeting spaces. It acts as a hub for leading global innovation projects that can help formulators address both their own product development needs and the changing hair care trends of consumers. With a network of collaborations, research partners and its own state of the art laboratories, Clariant is positioned as a key supplier for hair care cosmetics manufacturers worldwide.
“Latin America is an important region for Clariant as a whole and especially when it comes to the personal care industry. We are very proud to further extend our global R&D network to this region. The direct exposure to the market and customer needs will generate new insights and fuel our innovation strength” said Britta Fuenfstueck, member of the Clariant executive committee.
