US Patent No. 9,670,438 B2; Ecolab USA Inc., St. Paul, MN, has patented a method for treating a stain on a textile caused by sunscreen lotion. It is comprised of preparing a use solution by diluting a flowable solid composition with water. The flowable solid composition comprises one or more surfactants comprising a nonionic surfactant and an anionic surfactant, one or more chelating agents selected from the group consisting of a phosphate, phosphonate, amino-carboxylate, or combination thereof, a solidification agent comprising fumed silica, and an acid or a salt thereof. The acid is different from the chelating agent and is selected from the group consisting of glycolic acid, citric acid, lactic acid, formic acid, acetic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid, valeric acid, caproic acid, gluconic acid, itaconic acid, trichloroacetic acid, benzoic acid, urea hydrochloride, and combinations thereof.
The solution is applied to the textile contaminated with sunscreen comprising avobenzone, oxybenzone or a combination thereof. The textile is then rinsed.
