The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently issued product recalls, and Claire’s Cosmetics withdrew products following a negative media report.
According to the CPSC, Natural Solutions for Life recalled Synodrin Pain Relieving Cream due to failure to meet child resistant closure requirement. The product, Maximum Strength Synodrin Pain Relieving Cream with Lidocaine, is not child resistant as required by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act. The pain relieving cream contains lidocaine, posing a risk of poisoning to young children.
Consumers should immediately place the recalled pain relieving cream out of the reach of children and contact Natural Solutions for Life to obtain a free replacement cap. About 56,000 units were involved in the recall. No injuries were reported at press time.
The products were sold at Albertsons/Safeway, Giant, Harris Teeter, Meijer, Stop & Shop and Rite-Aid stores nationwide and online at Jet.com and Amazon.com from June 2017 through October 2017 for about $19.
Meanwhile, Benefit Cosmetics has issued a large recall of 55 products, including its popular Gimme Brow products, as batches tested positive for Pseudomona aeruginosa, according to the FDA.
The company’s website provided the following statement to customers about the recall products:
“Benefit Cosmetics is committed to the highest levels of quality and doing what’s right for our customers. Out of an abundance of caution, we are initiating a voluntary recall of our Gimme Brow product after discovering that recent batches of the product did not meet our stringent quality standards. If applied in its normal usage on the brows, the Gimme Brow product doesn’t involve any risk. However, if it comes into contact with the eyes, it could lead to eye irritation.”
Benefit told customers that it recommended that they stop using the product, and that they should return the product to its original place of purchase for a full refund.
In addition to several Gimme Brow products listed, the recall also included eyebrow products that were included in kits and sets that were sold by various retailers.
Cosmetics and accessories retailer Claire’s has withdrawn more than a dozen products from its inventory pending an investigation of its makeup ingredients, according to reports. The withdrawal came after a Providence, RI TV report about a mother who discovered her daughter’s makeup from Claire’s contained asbestos, a known carcinogen. The mother, who works as a law clerk in a firm that specializes in asbestos litigation, decided to send off her six-year-old’s makeup kit to be tested. She said the results came back, showing the product contained asbestos.
Claire’s is conducting an investigation and has recalled 17 products and offered a full refund at press time.
