    For six years, the Happi Anti-Aging Conference has set the standard for provocative discussions surrounding aging and the beauty industry. Our conference brings together experts from medicine, industry and government to discuss the key issues surrounding this multibillion-dollar category. This year’s event promises to be bigger than ever. To accommodate interest in our conference, we’ve moved to the Javits Center and co-located the event with NYSCC Suppliers’ Day, May 15 & 16, 2018.

    Past attendees agree. According to Paolo Giacomoni, Ph.D., chief scientific officer and co-founder of Elan Rose, the 2018 Happi Anti-Aging Conference will discuss topics of extreme interest in the field of anti-aging skin care.


    “Following the tradition set forth in the past, the organizers have asked the speakers to tackle thought-provocative topics,” noted Giacomoni, a beauty industry veteran who has served as head of the department of biology at L’Oréal, executive director of R&D at Estée Lauder, and VP of skin care at Herbalife. “This year the conference will challenge old concepts that have silently hindered the development of skin care science, both in the preparation of ingredients and in the analysis of skin physiology.”

    “The program is an opportunity to learn more about the new technology tools and information necessary to innovate the skin care products of the future,” observed Richard Widnauer, senior advisor, BCI LifeScience LLC and advisory board director, EpigenCare Inc. “Since consumers are becoming more demanding about their skincare products, the solution is to develop and market more effective products tailored or personalized for their skin type and color.”


    According to Widnauer, this trend will require novel protocols and enabling technologies to innovate these products including a more active involvement of the consumer in the product development process.


    “It is commendable that the organizers of the symposium have invited speakers to discuss the view of skin as an interactive surface instead of an inflexible barrier, and to welcome biotechnology-derived active ingredients,” observed Giacomoni. “These two presentations could open the way to new developments in the understanding of skin physiology, and to re-discuss the meaning of the word “natural” in skin care.”


    Giacomoni noted that demand for anti-aging products among non-Caucasians is a growing sub-category within the space, which dovetails with Alexis’ presentation on skin of color. At the same time, the futuristic topics of epigenetics and personalized skin care promise to shed light these emerging fields.
