Peptides, soybean extract and film formers.

BASF Care Creations North America is showing some of its newest skin care ingredients during NYSCC Suppliers' Day Week of Beauty.

PeptAlde 4.0 are four natural, multifunctional rice peptides discovered through the use of artificial intelligence, according to BASF. The peptides help protect against aging and chronic low levels of inflammation. In vivo results include skin moisturization, body firming, improving skin stretchability, and anti-irritation benefits on the scalp. In skin care applications, PeptAlde 4.0 is said to help improve the stiffening of the cellular envelope to strengthen the stratum corneum while ultimately helping to restore a good barrier function.

In hair care applications, hair stem cells located in the hair bulb release degradation enzymes (elastase) causing the degradation of collagen anchoring the hair follicle thus resulting in a progressive miniaturization of hair follicles. To prevent the miniaturization of the hair bulb, PeptAIde 4.0 helps to block the liberation of the degradation enzymes (elastase) By doing this, it effectively protects and strengthens the dermis and the hair follicle, according to BASF.

For the body, PeptAIde 4.0 was found to increase the skin moisture and skin comfort when formulated in a body lotion at 2%. In the study, BASF researchers recorded a reduction of the flaking and cracking in skin, and moisturization increases by 33% in as fast as one week. After one month, self-assessment in a BASF consumer panelist study showed an improvement of comfort and moisturization. In body care firming applications, PeptAIde 4.0 effectively improves skin firmness and suppleness. Using a consumer panel, it was determined that PeptAIde 4.0 further offers a body firming effect as early as two weeks of use with a remnant effect after discontinuation of product use for two weeks. It improves skin stretchability after one month of use as well.

Also new is Phytofirm Biotic, a soybean extract bio-fermented by the Lactobacillus plantarum strain. Rich in peptides and lactic acid, it has skin firming and elasticity benefits demonstrated in a clinical study, according to BASF. In vitro and in vivo testing showed that Phytofirm Biotic rejuvenates the youthful appearance of the skin by increasing the production of collagen I, collagen V and elastin. More specifically, jawline skin thickness was improved (as seen by ultrasound), jawline skin elasticity was significantly improved (65%) and elastic recovery was significantly improved.

Finally, in November, BASF Care Creations North America will introduce Mimiskin, a a biodegradable film-forming technology based on lipid particles. This patented technology allows for skin breathability, while providing a barrier to add a layer of protection on the skin, which makes it ideal for sensitive skin applications, accordign to BASF. Already available in Asia, Mimiskin can be used in a variety of formulations including facial creams, serums, mists, and primers. BASF Care Creations insists this multifunctional product offers a variety of solutions and claims in the skin care space, including anti-pollution, breathability, cleansing, hydration and skin radiance.
