Can this new idea in skin care really fly? Executives at Revenir, a division of $5.4 million engine and aircraft manufacturer Mikuni American Corp., Northridge, CA, say they have unlocked the secret to healthy skin through a new hand-held mist technology that electrolyzes water. This spray application is said to be the next cosmeceutical innovation. “This is a new generation of delivery,” explained Priti Odedra, vice president of business development, Mikuni America Corp. “This is the future. We will see drugs administered this way.”

The Revenir spray device electrolyzes a solution of Lascorbic acid, a combination of vitamin C and purified water, to create a mist with 20 micron-sized droplets. A platinum plate inside the spray separates the negative and positive ions, according to company executives.

The misting action is said to penetrate much better and deeper than topically applied products, as far down as the hyperdermis. For example, the sprayed vitamin C is absorbed eight times more than topical vitamin C. The mist also works to cleanse the surface of the skin, pores and the epidermis. The solution is said to function like superoxide dismutase, a highly potent antioxidant derived from ascorbic acid.

Executives said the spray can be used with any skin care line, even as a preparatory item. The main benefits of Revenir include skin renewal, fine line and deep wrinkle reduction, collagen and elastin production, decreased hyperpigmentation and improved skin health and free radical damage.

“There is no flakiness or dry spots and fine lines are diminished completely,” Ms. Odedra insisted.

Four vitamin C solution bottles accompany the electrolyzed spray.

The California Skin Research Institute was contracted for a series of clinical studies. Ms. Odedra said after seven days, the skin became brighter, and after six weeks, fine lines softened. Final results showed an 89% reduction in discoloration in a 12-week hyperpigmentation study and a 20% improvement in crow’s feet in a 12-week facial line and wrinkle study. In a subjective test, 67% of the subjects said they felt an improvement in their skin.

“Quick results are not always the healthiest for the skin,” insisted Ms. Odedra. “Besides, you cannot get these results without targeting vitamin C to the right areas.”

A month’s supply is available in four C-solution bottles for $79. The Revenir spraying contraption itself is much more expensive, and retails for approximately $400.

A Charming Solution
Mikuni’s new Charme skin care line uses a similar spray system, but is accompanied by a low pH solution of sodium chloride and water to relieve skin care problems such as dry skin, eczema, acne, bed sores, sunburn and diaper rash. The solution can be used as both an astringent and cleanser, executives said. Research has shown the antimicrobial effects of low pH water against E-coli, Staphylococcus aureaus, Salmonella, Psuedomonas aeruginosa and others.

Specifically, the water is electrolyzed into acidic and alkaline particles, 40 microns or less in diameter, in the Charme system.

“Charme has the same number of negative ions equivalent to standing under a waterfall in the rain forest,” Ms. Odedra said.

The products are distributed to select spas and salons through ActSys Healthcare, such as the Gita Gabriel spa in New York City.
