Evonik Debuts New Silicone
Evonik presented two new silicones for skin and hair care as well as a new PEG-free thickening agent at SEPAWA 2009. Abil Care XL 80 is a novel, silicone-based, oil-in-water emulsifier that provides an outstanding combination of performance and aesthetics, according to the company. Formulations based on this new emulsifier feel very velvety and silky and have a light, smooth after-feel on the skin. Creams, lotions and sprays containing all type of active ingredients or UV filters can easily be formulated with Abil Care XL 80.
Abil T Quat 60 is a premium silicone conditioning agent with excellent substantivity to hair keratin, outstanding conditioning features and impressive heat protection properties for universal use in conditioning shampoos, hair rinses, balms, body washes and leave-in products. It is highly suitable for clear formulations and provides a superior skin feel and improves foam properties.
Antil Soft CS is a natural choice for a multifunctional thickening agent for rinse-off formulations, according to Evonik. It improves foam creaminess and reduces moisture loss of skin and hair after surfactant treatment. This ingredient works as a foam booster even in PEG-free formulations and complies to the Ecocert standard.

Cognis Shows Green Solutions
Cognis presented its latest solutions for green and for high-performance personal care and home care products at SEPAWA 2009. Holistic product experiences, proven environmental soundness and outstanding application properties were key themes at the Cognis booth. It also featured various formulations to show visitors how Cognis’ range of ingredients and products are used in personal and household products.
One highlight was the Cognis Green Formulation Set, comprised of Cognis formulations for use in natural cosmetics, which are compliant with the requirements of certification bodies like the BDIH or NaTrue. These include the first plant-based pearlescent wax dispersion that contains no ethylene oxide or amines.

Organic Face and Body Masques From Caribbean Natural Products
Caribbean Natural Products recently debuted its natural organic marine-based face and body masques. According to the company, these premixed blends contain marine as well as high active novel natural materials. They may be used as is as a base for further development with the formulator adding his or her own unique ingredients.

Aminat-G from Vedeqsa, Inc.
Vedeqsa, Inc. has introduced Aminat-G, an innovative preservative for cosmetics. It has applications as a preservative for skin, hair and oral care products. It can also be used as an active ingredient for antiseptic hand wash products and non-spray deodorants.
Aminat-G (INCI: Glycerin and ethyl lauroyl arginate HCl) has broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity covering bacteria, molds and yeasts. It is easily incorporated into cosmetic products as it is miscible with water and solvents such as ethanol, isopropanol, benzylalcohol and phenoxy ethanol.
This ingredient is also compatible with nonionic, cationic and amphoteric surfactants.
Ecocert has certified Aminat-G as an ingredient that follows the conformity of the natural and organic cosmetic standards.
Ethyl lauroyl arginate HCl is a unique antimicrobial ingredient with cationic surfactant properties derived from naturally occurring substances, L-arginine (amino acid) and lauric acid (fatty acid).

EMD Launches New Timiron Ice Crystal Pigment
EMD Chemicals Inc. rolled out its newest cosmetic pigment under the Timiron banner. This new product represents the latest technology based on synthetic mica. Timiron Ice Crystal is a new, high-intensity pigment that offers brilliant silver white shimmer and dramatic luster, according to the company. It is based on synthetic fluorphlogopite, which is coated with titanium dioxide.
Even in opaque applications, Timiron Ice Crystal pigment’s sparkle delivers shimmer and luminosity.
