Selfies Help Makeup Sales Soar in UK

The craze for taking selfies has boosted UK demand for cosmetics by more than 7% in the past year to top $1.2 billion in 2015. Nielsen senior health and beauty client manager Helen Beddow told UK trade magazine The Grocer that there was growing evidence that women are applying more makeup to ensure that they are always camera ready.


According to Nielsen, concealer sector has been the biggest contributor to growth adding $17 million to sales. In addition, eyebrow makeup added nearly $16 million and lip color more than $15 million. New products contributing to the gains include Maybelline Brow Satin and Rimmel Provocalips 16Hr.
