The destruction of colonies around the world has put a bee in Gattefossé's bonnet and the flavor and fragrance company is doing something about it.

Gattefossé added three beehives, each containing 50,000 bees raised in Pérouges (Ain), at its Saint-Priest site. Bees play an essential role as a primary pollinator; the bee accounts for 30% of the human food source (fruits, vegetables and oilseeds).

In France, bees are dying at a rate of 30% per year (compared to 5% to 10% 20 years ago), according to the company. There are several reasons this has happened, such as global warming and the appearance of new predators, but the widespread use of pesticides has also become a factor. Given this situation, Gattefossé decided to become actively involved in biodiversity preservation and the safeguarding of a threatened species by welcoming these beehives onto the site. Nicolas Masurel, the entrepreneur behind la Rurche Urbaine, will be responsible for the upkeep of the beehives.

This constructive and collaborative initiative fully complies with Gattefossé's well-established CSR approach.

The Saint-Priest site employees will be invited to take part in awareness and introduction to bee-keeping workshops.
