US Patent No. 12,109,279 B2 (Stephanie Anne Ventura Morris, Ryuji Hara); L’Oréal has patented a cleansing mask with self-bubbling action that is achieved without the use of perfluorinated compounds.

The composition is comprised of 8-20 wt. % polyvinyl alcohol; 0.2-10 wt. % of at least one sugar alcohol; 0.1-50 wt. % of at least one surfactant; 0.2-2 wt. % of at least one or more hydrophobically-modified polymers; 0.1-5 wt. % of at least one silicone oil; and water.

According to the patent, this cleansing mask provides deep cleansing properties. In the patent filing, L’Oréal asserts that the mask  “will also be unique in its ability to have a good deposition of skin active ingredients.”

The mask is more sustainable as it uses less water than a traditional cleansing mask since it can be peeled it away from the skin surface in one piece without using water, according to the patent filing.
