Croda Beauty Actives Transition to PFAS-Free Peptides

Many ingredients are already free from trifluoroacetic acid and more will be progressively added to this list in the upcoming months.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), often referred to as “forever chemicals,” are a group of over 10,000 synthetic compounds used in various products including cosmetics, for their water- and grease-resistant properties. These substances have raised significant environmental and health concerns.

In Europe, several PFAS are restricted under REACH and 14 PFAS are already prohibited for use in cosmetics due to their carcinogenicity and reproductive toxicity properties. General PFAS restriction is currently under proposal by the ECHA. In the US, some states have banned cosmetics containing intentionally added PFAS.

Croda Beauty offers PFAS-free peptides. According to the company: “By eliminating substances like TFA (trifluoroacetic acid) from our peptide synthesis process, we prioritize both consumer safety and sustainability. In advance of regulation evolution, we remain committed to providing innovative solutions that meet the highest standards of safety and efficacy.”
