NYSCC Suppliers' Day
Meeting Sustainability Goals with Eastman
Ingredients like Esmeri, which balance efficacy and environmental impact, expand the toolkit
According to Eastman’s Global Skin Care Report, released in time for NYSCC Suppliers’ Day, globally, 85% of formulators say sustainability is important, but only 52% are satisfied with current options. To fill the void, Eastman has a growing portfolio of specialty ingredients, including Esmeri, that are designed to help balance efficacy and environmental impact.
Eastman’s report includes results from surveys of both formulators and consumers. The consumer survey includes responses from 6,000 women ages 12–70 across six countries and explores perspectives on current skin care and SPF application options.
According to the survey, 57% of global consumers choose their preferred facial skin care brands because the brands use sustainable ingredients.
Seventy-five percent of formulators agree that customer and retailer expectations push formulators to prefer sustainable ingredients and 73% agree that internal company sustainability targets influence what ingredients they use. Nearly half (42%) of formulators expect biodegradability to be common in their region within three to five years, with almost none believing it will remain niche.
Esmeri CC1N10 cellulose ester micropowder presents a versatile option for formulators across a range of applications. This biodegradable micropowder offers multifunctionality, including support for improved tactile properties by drying down quickly to help reduce tackiness. Through a UV scattering mechanism, it can help support SPF boosting to offer formulators the potential flexibility to reduce UV filters while improving performance. Additionally, it provides an optical soft-focus effect to minimize the appearance of pores, fine lines, and wrinkles, while supporting shine control for a soft, powdery matte finish. Eastman continues to invest and innovate in cellulose ester micropowders, exploring new solutions and performance attributes across color, skin and sun applications.
Esmeri can be formulated in lipstick, foundation, pressed powder, sunscreen sticks and mineral sunscreens.
