Due to an editing error in our Jan. 2013 issue, there was a misstatement in Happi’s coverage of the SCC Annual Meeting (p. 79). Here is the correct description of the presentation by Michael J. Fevola:

Michael J. Fevola of Johnson & Johnson explained how polymers comprised of covalently-linked amphiphilic repeat units (ARUs) are a very effective way of achieving micelle size distributionswith lowsmall micelle fraction valuesand therefore, low irritation potential. That’s because polymerization of the surface-active moieties dramatically decreases the ability of polymerized surfactants to penetrate the stratum corneum relative to conventional small molecule surfactants. Fevola called these polymerized surfactants a step-change in mild cleansing technology and he statedthat they may be the mildest foaming surfactant ingredients ever developed for personal cleansing.
