US Patent No. 8,158,834 B2; Kao has patented a process that produces a hydrogenolysis product of a polyhydric alcohol by a batch method. It entails contacting and reacting a polyhydric alcohol with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenolysis catalyst in a reaction system, while selectively removing water from a liquid phase of the reaction system.
