Beauty brand Philosophy, founded by Cristina Carlino, is marking its 16th anniversary this year.

Carlino, who previously developed Biomedic, a medical skin care company, built Philosophy into an award-winning company with loyal fans who loved the products for their efficacy and aesthetics as much as their quirky and clever names, like Hope in a Jar and Miracle Worker.

In 2010, Coty Inc. acquired Philosophy from The Carlyle Group. While a sale price was not disclosed, Carlyle was said to be seeking $1 billion for the company, which was expected to have sales of more than $200 million that year.

To celebrate its birthday, Philosophy has created a limited-edition shower gel, it’s philosophy’s sweet 16, which is scented with cinnamon buns, a perennial customer favorite and one of the company’s best-selling shower gel scents.
