Is Unilever Closing Alberto’s Melrose Park Plant?

Reports surface facility to be shuttered sometime in 2013.

According to published reports, Unilever plans to close the Alberto Culver plant in Melrose Park, IL in 2013 and will axe employees as well.


A Unilever spokeswoman told the Chicago Sun Timesthe entire office staff at the plant in Melrose Park will be cut or transferred.

Unilever acquired Alberto-Culver in $3.7 billion deal which closed this year. The company, which makes hair care products under the TreSemme, St Ives, Nexxus and V05 banners, generated annual sales in excess of $1.6 billionin fiscal 2010.

The facility in Melrose Park was Alberto-Culver’s former headquarters.
