Verilux Launches At-Home Acne Device

ClearWave uses blue light technology to banish blemishes.

Verilux, a lighting company, is rolling out the ClearWave Phototherapy System for Acne,billed as an affordable, drug- and chemical-free solution for blemish-prone skin. The unit will be sold at Verilux.comand at Brookstone mall stores.


The ClearWave, which employs blue light technology to target acne-causing bacteria, has been through the 510K process and is FDA cleared for over-the-counter treatment of mild to moderate inflammatory acne. Additional product information is available in the FDA medical devices database.

“Verilux has been researching the benefits of full-spectrum light and light therapy for more than 50 years,” said Verilux CEO Ryan Douglas. “Incorporating blue light technology into our ClearWave skin care line was a natural evolution to our light therapy solutions.”

The ClearWave Phototherapy System for Acne comes with a replaceable natural spectrum LED head. Each treatment head lasts for 600 applications, and a smart display tracks the number of applications remaining. The system is $149.95 and replacement heads are $34.95.
