P&G Looks to Cash in on Teen Spending

Issues prepaid debit card via Tremor.

Procter & Gamble’s Tremor word-of-mouth marketing division and its Vocalpoint online community have partnered with BillMyParents to offer a six-month “free trial” of its Spend Smart Card, a prepaid debit card targeted to teens. The promotion is part of a three-month marketing campaign with Tremor, which aims to drive business through consumer advocacy. Vocalpoint, an interactive website for moms, is part of Tremor.
The BillMyParents Spend Smart service includes text alerts when the card is used, and it can be instantly locked and unlocked, according to information posted on Vocalpoint.

The free trial offer for Vocalpoint subscribers is not without costs in the form of fees, including charges for loading funds (75 cents), ATM withdrawals ($1.50) and ATM balance inquiries (50 cents). A regular monthly membership fee of $3.95 kicks in after the six-month trial period.
