The aisles at the New Jersey Expo Center in Edison, NJ were jammed with thousands of cosmetic chemists as the annual Suppliers’ Day, sponsored by the New York Chapter of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists was a tremendous success. Total attendance was 7,200—an increase of nearly 20% over 2010. The number of exhibitors rose 10% to 330. “The 2011 NYSCC Suppliers’ Day show had its biggest showing yet, both in terms of attendance and the number of exhibitors on the floor,” said Jeff Crume, chairman. “Despite the still shaky North American economy, Manufacturers of cosmetic products are constantly looking for differentiating technology that will help grow their market share. Sustainable, mild, and environmentally friendly products are a common theme among suppliers and manufacturers, and those able to bring these types of products to the consumer without a significant increase in cost are bound to be successful.” Crume noted that there was a noticeable increase in the number of International exhibitors from both Europe and Asia, giving the show a slightly different flavor. “The focus of the show was the North American market, but providing exposure for foreign-based companies is part of the concept behind Suppliers’ Day,”said Crume. “We also strive to provide an environment for cosmetic suppliers, big and small, to showcase their latest and greatest innovations to a targeted audience of R&D and purchasing personnel from the major cosmetic manufacturers.” Next year the show will be taking place on May 15 and 16, once again at the NJ Convention Center in Edison, NJ. But words and numbers only tell part of the story. To get a better view of Suppliers’ Day 2011, as seen through the lens of associate art director Jessica Carlin, click here.
