Coty is expanding its Sanford, NC manufacturing operations with the addition of nail polish production lines. The move is expected to add 140 jobs at the facility.

Earlier this year, Coty acquired OPI Products, the leading player in the professional nail enamel sector. However, the move by Coty comes at a time when the company is closing a facility in Rocky Point, NC. That closure will lead to nearly 100 layoffs.

Coty expects to begin filling the new jobs in February and for production to start in March.

The move follows a string of acquisitions by Coty that are said to total $2 billion. Brands now in company’s fold include Dr. Scheller Cosmetics AG in Germany; the Philosophy skin care brand; Tjoy, a Chinese skin care brand and, of course, OPI.

The acquisitions have changed the face of Coty, for sure. According to the company, after the acquisitions, fragrance share of Coty sales shrank 7% to 55%, color cosmetics increased 3% to 26% of volume, skin care rose from 4% to10% and the share of toiletries fell 2% to 9%.

With these acquisitions, Coty’s sales approach $4 billion, with the company’s goal being $7 billion in sales by 2015.
