Procter & Gamble Co. will report its first-quarter earnings Wednesday before the market opens.

Prior to the announcement, analysts are wondering if the company can keep building sales while spending on heavier marketing, innovation, and discounts or lower-priced product versions to keep budget-watching shoppers buying its big-name brands such as Pampers diapers and Tide laundry detergent.

Among summer launches were the Gillette ProGlide razor and Gain dishwashing liquid, which P&G has said got off to strong starts. The company had reinvigorated sales growth, but net income fell in its fourth quarter, and another decline is expected for the first, compared with last year’s results.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expect the company to earn $1 per share on revenue of $20.2 billion. P&G earned nearly $3.35 billion, or $1.06 per share, on revenue of $19.8 billion.
