Frugalista American consumers traded down from premium color cosmetics to mass products as they sought to stay looking good while getting the most from their money. As a result, sales of premium color cosmetics declined by 5% in current value terms in 2009 to $3.4 billion, while sales of mass products grew by more than 1%, according to Euromonitor International’s new Color Cosmetics Products USA report.

Total color cosmetics sales declined by over 1% in current value terms, the market research firm reported.
