Charkit Acquires Assets of ISI Charkit Chemical Corporation acquired the assets of International Sourcing Inc. (ISI) on April 28. A purchase price was not disclosed. “Charkit’s entire organization is enthusiastic about this important acquisition,” said Charles Hinnant, president, Charkit. “We are confident that ISI’s outstanding reputation as a leader in specialty cosmetic ingredients further expands our substantial personal care capabilities.” One of the primary reasons for the acquisition was ISI’s roster of exceptional marine products, according to Jay Lang, vice president, sales, Charkit. “This acquisition expands our product line to a collection of exotic seaweeds, salts and moods as well as body and facial masks that include some of the most sought-after ingredients.” Lang specifically cited Dead Sea brine, mud and salt; European spa salt; exfoliating scrubs; ground seaweeds; Ormagel SH & XPU (seaweed complexes); Quiditat SR & SRC (marine AHA protectors); seaweed extracts, flakes and complexes; and liquid and powder sea water as an important part of a comprehensive range of ingredients that come from ISI. The Maryland facility—which represents the company’s fourth production site, and is the first in the U.S.—will provide a sustainable and environmentally-friendly production base for Chesapeake Bay Candle brand growth, the company said. Husband-and-wife-team Mei Xu and David Wang started the business in their home in Annapolis, MD in 1994. Pacific Trade International and Chesapeake Bay Candle home fragrance products are available through leading retailers including Target, Kohl’s and Pier 1 Imports. The new facility is expected to open in late 2010. Henkel’s Shower Power mobile shower. Henkel’s Mobile Shower Helps the Homeless Henkel Consumer Goods Inc. has teamed with Tempe Community Action Agency (TCAA) to launch “Shower Power,” a mobile shower trailer that provides free showers to homeless. The Shower Power unit was unveiled on May 4 at Grace Community Church in Tempe. Shower Power, a class project of Tempe Leadership Class XXV, will provide showers to homeless individuals who participate in the Interfaith Homeless Emergency Lodging Program (I-HELP), which provides overnight shelter to the working homeless. Henkel’s Dial brand sponsored the construction of the mobile shower trailer, and Henkel has donated Dial body wash, Right Guard and Soft & Dri deodorants, as well as Citre Shine shampoo for use in the showers, along with 100 towels and Purex laundry detergent for washing the towels. “Henkel is proud to support this worthwhile project to make showers available to the working homeless,” said Ryan Gaspar, senior brand manager of Henkel. “When we were approached by TCAA about getting involved in Shower Power, it was a natural fit for our Dial body wash brand and our other personal care brands. We’re pleased that we’re playing a part in helping the homeless find and keep jobs.” Glenn Corp.
