Nivea Helps Usher in 2009 In NYC’s Times Square

As New York City rang in 2009, Nivea Lip Care ensured that one million lips were ready for those unforgettable midnight kisses. As the official sponsor of the New Year’s Eve celebration in Times
Square, Nivea turned the iconic spot into a virtual sea of blue that was seen by over a billion people worldwide. On the ground, the crowd wore blue Nivea hats and waved blue and silver Nivea balloons. In addition to a Nivea Kiss and Be Kissed Platform, the Nivea Countdown Stage hosted performers such as The Jonas Brothers, Taylor Swift, Ludacris and Lionel Richie.

For viewers at home watching NBC, Carson Daly tracked time with the Nivea Countdown Clock, and seconds before midnight, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, then New York Senator Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton, stood before the Nivea branded podium to press the
button for the famous ball drop.

The celebration was the culmination of the successful launch for Nivea lip care in the U.S. marketplace.

“Having already overachieved our year one  target, we are poised to reach a strong market position in 2009,” said Nicolas Maurer, vice president, marketing, Beiersdorf Inc.
