Playtex Products Inc. posted better-than-expected second-quarter profits, aided by strong sales of its Banana Boat sunscreen products and Wet Ones hand and face wipes. The company, which also makes Playtex tampons, gloves and children’s products, earned $10.3 million, or 16 cents per share in the quarter, up from $6.2 million, or 10 cents per share, a year earlier. Looking ahead, the company affirmed its 2006 outlook for net sales on a reported basis to be down in the low-single digits. Playtex said it still sees 2006 operating income to be between $103 million and $108 million.
