Her inspiration came after she lost her husband to skin cancer and wanted to do something that would help others avoid his fate. Because the UV protection is added in the course of making the fabric, and not sprayed on, Soleil Chic umbrellas are guaranteed to give more than 97% protection from UVA and UVB rays. The product is designed for protection against cancer, premature aging and for those with connective tissue diseases (e.g., lupus) who should not get excessive sun exposure. Available in colors such as Candy Apple Red, Crisp White, Bright Yellow, and with matching totes, they can be used for travel, golf, walking the dog or anywhere there’s sun. And because the fabric is treated for durable water protection, they can be used in light to moderate rain. According to Ms. Rosenberg, Soleil Chic was tested by an independent lab and endorsed by dermatologists, rheumatologists, plastic surgeons and professors of neurobiology. The Soleil Chic parasols retail for $31.95 (small and $35.95 (medium).
