Saint-Gobain Calmar
To Streamline Sites
● Saint-Gobain Calmar Inc., City of Industry,
CA, executives said the company
plans to invest in making manufacturing
sites leaner to strengthen the company’s
position in a price-sensitive
global marketplace. Two new plants
will be built in San Luis Potosi,
Mexico, by the end of 2005 and in
Kansas City. Once the Mexico facility
opens, the City of Industry plant will
close due to California’s sales and
property taxes, insurance, energy and
worker’s compensation, as well as
streamlined shipping east of the
Mississippi. However, the corporate
and personal care products division
headquarters will remain in the City
of Industry area, executives said.
“The decision to invest in new, lean
manufacturing facilities was made following
a thorough and strategic
review of the business,” said president
John McKernan. “This is a highly
competitive industry and there is constant
price pressure, locally as well as
from overseas.”
Executives said steps will be taken
to ensure an uninterrupted supply of
quality products to customers.
