The Procter & Gamble Company has announced a voluntary recall of Swiffer Sweep+Vac, a battery-operated upright vacuum cleaner introduced in September. The recall does not affect any other Swiffer products.

P&G issued the recall when an isolated product quality issue was identified. In a few cases, the Sweep+Vac rotor can lock up, P&G executives said. If the unit is left in the “on” position, heat can build up producing smoke, with the potential for fire. P&G has received 14 complaints of Sweep+Vacs overheating. No consumer injuries have been reported.

The recall involves discontinuing all retail sales, as well as a product retrieval from consumers. Consumers should disconnect the Sweep+Vac by removing the top section of the pole and should call (800) 487-5915 or visit www.swiffersweepandvac.com.
