Procter & Gamble Co. said on Wednesday it agreed to buy the Glide dental floss business from W. L. Gore & Associates for an undisclosed sum, to expand its dental care business.

Privately held W.L. Gore, which also makes Gore-Tex fabrics and Elixir guitar strings, will continue developing and manufacturing the fiber for the floss line, while P&G will market and sell it under the Glide and Crest brand names, Cincinnati-based P&G said in a release. Pending regulatory approval, the acquisition will be completed over the next six weeks

Glide has annual sales of more than $45 million and the U.S. floss market pulls in sales of more than $200 million, said P&G.
