Say Goodbye To Lord & Taylor

Venerable US retailer is closing all stores.

In another yet another sad sign of the times, Lord & Taylor has announced that it is going out of business. The venerable retailer had first announced it would shutter a select number of stores when it filed for bankruptcy earlier this month.

Established in 1826, Lord + Taylor claimed to be the “oldest American store of its kind.” It opened its flagship store on Fifth Avenue in New York City in 1914. Lord & Taylor was one of the first to offer personal shopping services and champion emerging designers, and was also the first retailer to have a female president (1945).

Lord + Taylor was acquired in 2019 by Le Tote, a rental subscription-based fashion company, in a $75 million deal with Hudson Bay.

Le Tote filed for Chapter 11 earlier this month.
