Dickinson Brands, the world's leading distributor of witch hazel-based skin and personal care, has teamed up with Keep America Beautiful to help support the nonprofit organization's National Planting Day initiative.

Kicking off on Sept. 10, 2016, Dickinson Brands will donate 100 Witch Hazel pollinator gardens to local Keep America Beautiful affiliates in communities across the country where Witch Hazel is native.

National Planting Day encourages Americans to get involved by planting native species in their local communities. The country wide initiative celebrates the critical nature of native plants and trees in enhancing biodiversity and rebuilding ecosystems, while also transcending aesthetic appeal to local, public spaces for residents and visitors to enjoy. National Planting Day is a fall initiative of Keep America Beautiful's Great American Cleanup, the nation's largest community improvement program.

As part of the initiative, Dickinson Brands will be donating Witch Hazel pollinator gardens to communities in need. As a native plant to New England and eastern North America, American Witch Hazel is one of the only plants that flower in late autumn. After spring and summer flowers have withered away, American Witch Hazel is noted to be one of the last forages for honey bees and other pollinators who are in need of pollen during winter months.

The donation of Witch Hazel pollinator gardens on National Planting Day will provide these pollinators with pollen to gather and store in the winter months when pollen is not readily available. That food source is then used in the spring to feed the first batch of baby bees and other pollinators before spring flowers bloom.

“Planting American Witch Hazel in native regions is ideal to support pollinator health and National Planting Day activities,” said Bryan Jackowitz, president of Dickinson Brands, Inc. “Our partnership with Keep America Beautiful is the perfect fit, as it gives us the opportunity to share the nature and beauty of our core ingredient while helping to beautify communities across the country.”
