Lauder Patents Cosmetic with Resveratrol Derivatives
US Patent No. 9,295,621 B2; ELC Management LLC, New York, (Estée Lauder Corp.) has patented an emulsion cosmetic composition comprising esters consisting of a mixture of: 3-phosphate-5,4′-dihydroxystilbene, 4′-phosphate-3,5′-hydroxystilbene, 3,5-diphosophate-4′-hydroxystilbene, 3,4′-diphosphate-5-hydroxystilbene; and 3,5,4′-triphosphate stilbene; and at least one DNA repair enzyme.
 
P&G Patents Mascara with Thickening Benefits
US Patent No. 9,254,247 B2 (PIC) The Procter & Gamble Company has patented a mascara system comprising, in combination, a molded, thermoplastic mascara applicator comprising substantially longitudinal stem having a major axis and a plurality of protrusions wherein at least two adjacent protrusions are spaced from one another at a distance of from about 0.75mm to about 3.0mm at the base of the stem; and a mascara composition comprising primary particles, secondary particles, and a dermatologically acceptable carrier. Some  of the secondary particles comprising polyamide fibers coated with copper sulphide as an anti-static agent.
 
Personal Care Products Containing Ocean Rainwater
US Patent No. 9,295,618 B2;  PV Creations LLC, Fair Lawn, NJ, has been awarded patent protection for a method of increasing moisture absorption in human skin that entails applying to the skin an effective amount of a hydrating mist comprising pure Pacific Ocean rainwater, allowing the hydrating mist to absorb into the skin for about 30 seconds; applying to the skin an effective amount of a moisturizing lotion comprising pure Pacific Ocean rainwater; and allowing moisturizing lotion to absorb into the skin for about 30 seconds. The hydrating mist and moisturizing lotion each comprise pure Pacific Ocean rainwater as well as resurrection plant extract, passion fruit extract, sea buckthorn extract, orchid extract, pomegranate extract and portulaca extract. The rainwater is gathered off the Northern Pacific Coastline of the US and has a practical quantitation limit of 0.50 mg/L for sodium, 10 mg/L for hardness, 1 mg/L for calcium and 1 mg/L for magnesium.
 
Synthetic Solid Cleanser
US Patent No. 9,301,916 B2; Arthur Perry of Franklin Park, NJ has patented a sydnet for skin cleansing having a pH in the range of from about 5.3 to about 5.8. It is comprised of: quillaja, bergaptene-free essential lemon oil, thymol, essential lavender oil, sodium cocoyl isethionate, cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine, beeswax, sodium isethionate, oat flour, glycerin, and titanium dioxide.
 
L’Oréal Patents Hair Color
US Patent No. 9,295,632 B1; L'Oréal, Paris, has been awarded a US patent covering an acidic hair pretreatment composition. It is comprised of at least one film-forming latex polymer; at least one neutralizing agent; at least one organic solvent; and water. The pH of the composition is from about 2 to about 6.
The composition does not include a dye.
 
Sunscreen Patented by Mary Kay
US Patent No. 9,295,622 B2; Mary Kay Inc. has patented a substantive emulsion comprising water; a combination of octisalate, avobenzone, homosalate, oxybenzone, and octocrylene; a combination of polyvinylpyrrolidone/eicosene copolymer and hydroxyethyl acrylate/sodium acryloyldimethyl taurate copolymer/squalane/polysorbate 60; 1,2-hexanediol/caprylyl glycol/tropolone; and glyceryl stearate/PEG-100 stearate.
This emulsion has a sun protection factor of at least 30 and is very water resistant.
 
Flower Essential Oil Extraction Method
US Patent No. 9,296,979 B1; Metal Industries Research & Development Center, Kaohsiung, Taiwan, has patented a flower essential oil extraction method. The method entails placing flowers in a high-pressure treatment tank; introducing a pressurized liquid medium into the high-pressure treatment tank so as to reach a predetermined pressure, wherein the pressure is maintained for a predetermined period of time at a predetermined temperature, then the pressure is reduced to atmospheric pressure; and placing the flowers subjected to high-pressure treatment in an extraction tank. The flowers are extracted with a low-polarity solvent to obtain an extract.­
 
Cleaning Composition Patented by SCJ
US Patent No. 9,296,980 B2; SC Johnson & Son, Inc., Racine, WI, has patented a composition for treating a hard surface. It is comprised of at least one adhesion promoter; wherein at least one adhesion promoter comprises an organic molecule with a hydrophobic residual and a polyethoxy residual including 15 to 55 ethoxy groups; at least one surfactant selected from the group consisting of anionic, nonionic, cationic, amphoteric, zwitterionic and combinations thereof; mineral oil; water; linear primary alcohols; and at least one solvent. Upon application directly on the hard surface, the composition self-adheres thereto through a plurality of flows of water passing over the self-adhering composition and the hard surface.
