Dentifrice Compositions Formulated with Alginate, Zinc Arginine-Chloride

Details on two of Colgate’s latest toothpaste patents awarded by the USPTO.

US Patent No. 11,826,447 B2 (Manying Shi, Yun Xu, Yuan Wu); Colgate-Palmolive Company, New York, NY, has patented a toothpaste containing an alginate; zinc compounds (comprised of zinc oxide and zinc citrate trihydrate in a weight ratio of about 1:2) and an abrasive (calcium carbonate). The toothpaste does not contain a polyphosphate and is free of nonionic surfactants.

US Patent No. 11,826,448 B2 (Zhigang Hao, Chi-Yuan Cheng, Tatiana Brinzari, Long Pan, Ravi Subramanyam); Colgate-Palmolive Company has patented an oral care composition comprising a zinc-bis(arginine) complex having the formula [Zn(arginine)2X]+X. X is a monovalent anion. The complex is formed by combining a zinc ion source and arginine, in free or salt form, in a dentifrice or oral gel base comprising glycerol.
