Pilot Chemical Launches Biosurfactant for Personal Care Formulas

Pilot Chemical Company (stand 752) launched CalCare 190C, a sustainable biosurfactant designed specifically for the personal care industry. The key attributes of CalCare 190C include a 98.6% Renewable Carbon Index, clear color, stable pH Range (3 to 11), and the ability to form high and stable foam. CalCare 190C is a biosurfactant for shampoo and body wash formulations and is easily formulated with other surfactants. It offers excellent foam and lather; is mild on skin; has undetectable levels of 1,4-Dioxane; and is sulfate-free.

CalCare 190C performs like a traditional surfactant but has the added environmental benefit of being a biobased surfactant. It is produced in the United States through a batch process providing ease of scalability compared to fermentation. A reliable, domestic feedstock contributes to consistent quality, and Pilot Chemical’s production run rates can meet current and future demands for the biosurfactant. An abundance of the non-edible, biomass feedstock globally offers supply chain stability.

Last year, Pilot introduced its first two biosurfactants, CalNext 126 and 196. These two biosurfactants were designed specifically for household, industrial and institutional (HI&I) applications. The rollout of CalCare 190C represents the next phase in Pilot Chemical’s vision to offer innovative and sustainable products to its customers. An additional release in Pilot Chemical’s biosurfactant line is planned in 2024.
