A Comeback for Jane Iredale

Cosmetics maker rehires employees due to a rebound in demand.

The Estée Lauder Companies' announcement last week that it would slash up to 2,000 jobs from its payroll got all the attention, but there are signs of life in the cosmetics world. For example, Jane Iredale Cosmetics is rehiring staff who were laid off during the pandemic, said Christopher Payne, Iredale's CEO.

He told the Berkshire Eagle that the co
mpany let go 99 employees as 85% of its business vanished in March. But to-date, Iredale has rehired 48 people total across the company, which processes its skin care and makeup in California.

Jane Iredale, based in Berkshire, MA, is owned by San Francisco Equity Partners, which made it  ineligible for the Paycheck Protection Program loans through the federal Small Business Administration.
