Eco-labeling, surfactants and more at event.
June 1, 2015
By: Melissa Meisel
The American Cleaning Institute (ACI) will share its expertise on trends in North American ecolabeling, the safety of fatty alcohol-based surfactants and how existing industry research prevents unnecessary animal testing at the 10th World Surfactant Congress and Business Convention, June 1-3 in Istanbul, Turkey. The event is organized on behalf of the European Committee of Organic Surfactants and their Intermediates (CESIO), a sector group of Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Council. In addition to its presentations, ACI will co-host an exhibit booth with international association colleagues as part of the International Network of Cleaning Product Associations (www.incpa.net). “Research and science provide the backbone to cleaning product industry safety and effectiveness around the world,” said Richard Sedlak, ACI Executive Vice President, Technical & International Affairs. “Our presentations and interactions at CESIO and the new information we’re gathering will allow us to better serve our members throughout the cleaning product supply chain.” Presenting on behalf of ACI at the conference: · Kathleen Stanton, ACI Director, Technical & Regulatory Affairs, will discuss the challenges presented by the growth and changes in U.S. ecolabeling programs, “North American Ecolabeling.” · Dr. Stephen M. Mudge, Exponent International, will detail research that has improved our understanding of surfactant impacts on the environment and their safety, “How Would Changing the Feedstock Alter the Fate or Risk of my Fatty Alcohol-based Surfactants” (co-authored with Dr. Paul DeLeo, ACI Associate Vice President, Environmental Safety). · Dr. Francis Kruszewski, ACI Senior Director, Human Health & Safety, will discuss how successful methods were employed within existing ACI-managed High Production Volume chemical programs to help avoid unnecessary and duplicative animal testing, “Read-Across of Existing Hazard Data for Surfactants Fulfills HPV Chemical Program Requirements and Avoids Unnecessary Chemical Testing.” · Dr. Paul DeLeo, Associate Vice President, Environmental Safety, will present a poster which shows that concentrations of major surfactants in the environment in the U.S. appear to be consistent or lower than historic observations levels, “Evaluation of anionic surfactants in the environment using a novel approach for regional probabilistic exposure assessments.” More info: www.aciscience.org
