ISP Personal Care held a press conference during In-Cosmetics to highlight its expanded R&D and scientific capability that the company has been investing in during the past two years as part of a global R&D initiative. The new Global Personal Care business unit combines skin, hair, sun and oral care offerings. At the same time, ISP has created the Avant Institute, which consolidates ISP’s capabilities in molecular science, material science and analytical science, enabling formulators to easily access cutting-edge technology.

“The Avant Institute is designed to energize the new product pipeline within the personal care industry,” explained Jim Mish, vice president and general manager, ISP Personal Care. “We have nine technical centers around the world and 100 researchers. ISP has a lot of technology that is waiting to be exploited.”

In the area of actives, ISP is launching two new products as part of its Vincience line of skin biofunctional ingredients. Chondricare IS is a synthetic pentapeptide that functions as a mimetic of the protein aconitase, a critical functiaonl element of human cells tht both stimulates cell metabolism during the Krebs cycle and protects mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) from oxidative damage—such as that caused by UVB radiation.

Dynachondrine ISR is a soybean extract that is said to increase mitochondrial energy production and cell longevity by stimulating Cytochrome C Oxydase and SIRT3 expression. The product is said to be ideal for use in anti-aging creams and serums and energizing formulations.”
